SOAMES'S ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE. Wellington, April 27.
A test as to the advisability of increasing the power of tho Soainea's Island lighthouse was made last night by fche Tutanekai, with several experts on board, and as the night at times was hazy they were afforded a practical proof of the inefficiency of the present light. When about a couple of miles from Pencarrow Head the light on Soames's Island bscama obscured and the vessel's head was turned to port, and ifc was not for some time that the light) was picked up. The general impression of experts is that the light should be increased from a fifth order light to a second order, and so lessen the breadth oi white sector which marks a safe passage up the channel.
