The Tapanui Courier of the 28bh ult. says :—: — " Stags have nightly been heard ' barking ' vigorously at the foot of the Blue Mountains, and a mustering party on Monday report having Been an exceptionally large number of splendid animals. Those who took out licenses had the pleasure of shooting down most of the young stags, whilst those with good heads were hidden in the birch forests. Had the season extended as usual until the end of this month sportsmen would have hsd capital shooting."
The Dunedin Gun Club intend holding a pigaon match for £100 during the week of the Record Reign celebrations.
The Cup Committee of the Otago Cricket Association have finally considered all disputes in connection with the Third Class Cup competitions, with the result tfcat tho Oceana Cricket Club are declared the winners, having 16 wins sn r l two losses. Dunedin No. 1 are runuers-up with 13 wins and two losses. As already notified, the Carisbrook Cricket Club hava won both tho Senior and Junior Cup 3. The other afternoon an albatross, fairly beaten by the wind, was caught near the centre of the township of Petone, Wellington. A nnubilus shell, said by Captain Fairchild to be the second besb he has*ever seeD, was picked up on the beach at Palliser Bay close to the wreckage from the Zuleika. Captain Fairchild states lhat he hns never before heard of the discovery of a nautilus shell in Cook Sfcraifc.
