AGRICULTURAL CONFERENCE.

A special meeting of the sub-committee elected to arrange the Agricultural Conference was held at the Otago A. and P. Society's office on Saturday morning.

Mr James Smith (chairman) explained that the meeting had been called to diszust the question of holding tb.B conferonca. He regretted that but littlo interest had been taken by many of the associations. Although two circulars had been sent out, addressed to the whole of the associations throughout New Zealand, only 21 had replied, aud but nine of these had agreed to send delegates. He asked thoss present to decide what was advisable to do under tbe circumstanca«. Mr Pattulxo considered ft would be useless to hold an agricultural conference if only nine associations were represented. It was quits evident to him that » large majority of tho kindred associations did not consider that * conference was necessary, oiherwif e they would have replied and nominated delegates. H» moved — " That the committee of the Obago Agricultural and Pastoral Society regret tha apathy shown by kindred associations throughout New Zealand in replying and nominating delegates to attend an agricultural conference, and reluctantly recommend that the conference be postponed iudeflnitely." After some discussion, in which Messrs James Shiel and James Smith took parfe, tha motion was seconded by Mr M. SmctAia and carried unanimously. It was decided that tho resolution be forwarded to Mr Murphy, secretary to the conference, and that he be instructed to forward a copy of same to each association throughout New Zealand.
