"A Little Dull."
A farmer was discussing the trouble experienced with farm hauds, and instanced a new ' man he had recently eng'ged.
" He's a. pretty good sort of fellow is John," be remarked, •• bus he's a little dull — a little dull."
After a moment's further thought he continued, "It may be necessary to explaiD that » j bit. I'll tell you how 'tis with bini. I had ft pretty nice patch of onions growing, but they J stood a little thick together, and needed thinning cut. So I told John he might do it. He worked away at them for a day. aud then I went out to see how he was getting on. 1 found he bad pulled up all tho biggest ones and ! thrown them away, lea.v ng only the smallest plants iv tbe rows. I asked him what iv creation be had pulled out ail the best oues for, and lie said it was • to give the little fallows a. chance, 'cos the big ones bad crowded them and they couldn't grow.' A little dull John is— a little dull."
