The fit Id gob away well to/jether, Vanitas having a slight advantage. Before the turn was reached Hopscotch was in command, followed by Vanitaß and Glendeenou, the field bunched close up. There was bub little change rouad the bend and along the back, excepting that Hopecotch increased his lead to several lengths, which he maintained to the turn, where the field began to c'.ose up. Shortly before catering the straight, Hopscotch fell back, Tricolor shooting out on ths inside pursued by Kallatina and Lockleigh, Tricolor going on won by two lengths ; a length between second and third. The fisld straggled in. Time, 3mm 3l4?ec.
Captain Kriatenain, oE the Norwegian whaler Antarctic, whose movements exuiled much interest come time ago, writes («ays the Southland Kows) to Mr James Gordon, of the [ Campbell Island Sheep and Cattle Grazing j Company, suggesting that the proprietors should join him in a whale fiahiug expedition. In support thereof he states that he is convinced that the "right" whale is plentiful in the neighbouring waters. If they only caplured a couple ot whales the yield of oil would be sufficient to defray tho expanse of the venture, each vrhale, in his opinion, being ' worth from £500 fco £600.
