WELLINGTON NOTES.

Bt Onlookes.

April 17.

The Wairarapa Racing Club's Autumn meeting, which was to have opened to-daj', had to be postponud on account of the weather. Raports from I eatht-r~ton state that the course at Terekeruikau, which runs along the bank of the river on one aide, is partly under water, and although the meeting has been postponed until Monday and Tuesday, it is very doubtful if the course will be in order to race on so soon. Local sports who attend this meeting will, therefore, probably miss thcii usual outiup; this season.

Although w - Sharp's body was sent south for interment his, fuueral was advertised to take placsheie Tarn informed that Mr H. M Lyon, secretary of the Wellington Kacing Club, guaranteed the funeral expenses. The distressed jockeys' funo would, I presume, be made u*e of, but the fact that funds weie forthcoming for deceased's burul i« worth mentioning. As the Nel.son Jockey Club, a mettopolitan body, has taken no notice of the running of several races at its late meeting, the Colonial Secretary should look for an inquiry. It is common report here that several of the events weie prearranged, although some' of them did not result as expected.

Weights for the Wellington R*cing Club's Autumn meeting are due immediately after the oonclu«iou of the Master meetings.

For winning at Nelson Loveshot has been rehandicapped 71b extra and Nero 51b extra at the Wanvirapa meeting. Besides receiving poor acceptances for its Autu-'in meeting, the Feildiriß Jockey Club has bet-n further unfortunate iv the matter of bad weather. Reports f r<im Feilding to-day state that the heavy weather has caused considerable damage to the «ud and bridge traliic, and the meeting will not likely' come off for a week or more.
