Monday Afternoon. On Wednesday afternoon a number of the Knox Church office-bearers and their wives met at the new manse to inspect the completed building. An inspection was made of the house by all those desirious of seeing it, after which afternoon tea was served and several little speeches made befitting the occasion. Mr Hewitson spoke in tbe name of Mrs Hewitson and himself, and expressed themselves delighted with the efforts of the congregation for their comfort and pleasure in Dunedin, and seemed much gratified at the building before him. Mr Hislop, the architect, delivered a short speech, as did also Mr Morrison, the convener of the building committee, and Mr Simpson, who spoke in the nams of the builders.

Dr Marrin (who kiudlv placed her rooms at the disposal of the committee)'on Tuesday afternoon. A very large assemblage of ladies and gentlemen responded to the invitation to be present, and the committee must have been extremely gratified both at the large number present and the enthusiasm and internet disp ayed by all ia the object in feaud. Mr Joachim wjs in the chair, and Mrs Keynolds, as president, was chairwoman. The chairman made a few opening remarks explaining the object of the meeting, aud was followed by Mr Baron, who also delivered a short speech. Amongst those present were Mrs Martin, Mr and Mrs Joachim, Mtr Reynolds, Mr Baron, Mr Coben. Mr* Siuclsdr-Thotnson, Mrs Ulrich, Mm Sale, Mrs Hoaking, Mm Pinker, Mrs Grillaway, Mrs J. Law, the Misses Reynolds, Mrs Shand, Mis G. Denniston, Mrs Jackson, Mrs Fincb, Miss Williams, Mrs Carew, Miss Rattray, Mrs H. Williams, Mrs and Miss Baker, Misß Turton, &c.

The first meeting of tbe Austral Girton Club for 1897 was held in Girton College on Saturday. Miss Emery was elected actingsecretary. It was resolved that the next meeting of the club be held on May 8. Suggestions were received as to the " reading" to be selected for the season, and ife was decided to leave the choice to the committee. The treasurer (Miss Ross) then read a letter from Dr Barnardo, ia which he gratefully acknowledged the contribution of the Austral Girton Club to the work of his homes. The entertainment programme for the afternoon was excellent, both in the variety and in the quality of the items. The musical contributions were a pianoforte duet by the Misses Simpson and Bremer; a song, " The biter bit," by Miss Emery ; and s. vocal duet, " Life's dream is o'er," by Misses Simpson and Emory. Mi-is Simpson's recitation, "In Schooldays " (Whitcier), was well received. An illustrated song (ancient and modern), " Where are you going my pretty maid ? Miiss Neill, Mrs and Miss JKamsay, Mra Bargeman, Mra Blair (Wellington), the Mistes Sise, the Misßes Mark?, Miss Williams, Mrs and Miss Jackson, &c.

The Hon. W. J. M. Larnach and Mrs Larnach left on Thursday by tbe Mararoa for Wellington to attend the shorn parliamentary session which has been called for this week.

The Hon. W. H. Reynolds and Mrs Reynolds left on Monday for Wellington. Mr Scobie Mackenzie, Mr Millar, Hod. W. Downie Stewart, Mr Hone Heke, Hon. J. G. Ward, Mr J. W. Kelly, and Mr M. Gilfedder are amongst the members who left on Monday morning for Wellington.
