The singular punishment for bigamy in Hungary is to compel the man to live together with both wives in one house. It is strange, but true (writes a correspondent) that a pauper doorkeeper at a London workhouse is a Fellow of the Royal College of Burgeons. At one time he had an excellent practice, kept horses and carriages, and was chief medical officer of a country medical asylum. It is a strange fact that while paper is being need for dozenß of purposes formerly monopolised by wood, or even a harder material, such as car-wheels, boxes, barrels, tubs, pails, &c, wood is rapidly driving other ingredients to the . wall in the manufacture of nearly all the cheaper grades of paper. The Wellington Ciby Council are inquiring into the process of treating wood blocks with naphthaline, the waste product of candle faotories, which toughens and solidifies wood, and is believed to cheapen the cost. It is suggested that experimental lengths be laid down with, nuioosaorfca of timber.
