February 15.— The annual soiree in connection with ihe Hokonui Church building fund was held on the 10th inst. liy 8 o'clock the schooliiouse was packed to the door, :-oiue liaving to content themselves with landing loom The cnterc .inment was a complete success financially auo otherwise, the money taken at tne door nearly doubling that of last ye.if Che school was tast fully decorated with fern«, Ac, mingled with texts on cloth executL-o by Mi.ss B. Tanner and Mrs Paterson. Miss Tanner's artiatu 1 work de erves speoi-il mention, and it wan much admired by the audience. The ladies of the district provided the eatables, and deservi- credit for th& enthu-iistio way in which they li lped to make tne affair a success.
