February 15.— Thanks to the energy, capita,;, and perseverance of the various companies of New Zealand, the interests of dairy-farmers are being promoted wherever required. On the dth iust. Mi A. Svxton, lepresentittive of the Dunedin Mea.l and Export Company, addressed a large meeting of settlers at ChaslandK with the object of offering inducements tor the establishment of a, dairy factory in that district. Mr Houston was voted chaimran of the meeting, and introduced Mr Saxton to the audie cc with a fow appropriate remarks. Mr Saxton apoke for an hour and a-half, and during his speech he stated to the meeting that, providing the people of Cua«landa would take up 1000 shares in his company, a suitable tactory would be pstablishod in ample time for use next season. ™ 'sose present unanimously resolved that. th« offer should be accepted. After Mr S*xton'< addresn aud some subiequent conversation the business was cooip'eted, ami Mr Saxtoa wus accovdci a hearty vote of Tha.'Ua. It is the intention of Mr Suxtou, on behalf of his company, to arrange for tho erection of othur factorie- further south, in the direction of Waikawn, at which place there is a good harbour that should be the means of saving large expense in road caning*;.
