WAIKAIA.
December 7.— We have had splendid weather during the past week — not a shower during the whole time. Rain is beginning to be wanted now for the turnip crop. The grain crops are looking well, but would be the better of a little rain. The apple crop promises to be fairly good, but stone fruit is a regular failure I never saw plums looking «o bud. Obit.i/ary. — r.'.omitted to meation in my lajt the death of on'£ of our oldest residents, Mr Kenneth M'CrimjHon. I believe he was amongst the earliest of the miners on the Switzers Goldfields. Political.— We had a good deal of excitement on Friday over tho election, the general opinion being that the contest would be very close, especially in W«ikaia and the neighbourhood. As it turned out, however, there was a large majority in favour of our late member, Mr Fraser. The local option poll resulted in things remaining as they were, although the prohibitionists run very high in Waikaia. Cricket.— Our local team journeyed to Gore on Saturday and played against Wyndham. It was the first -Cup nTatch, and they beat Wyndham by 27 runs, the scores being :— Waikaia, 45 aria 60 ; Wyndham, 44 and 34. No large scores were made on either side, Mr H. Breadmore's being the largest. The bowling honours fell to W. Christie and J. Hainer.
