RATANUI.
December 7.— The following is Mr G. W. Draper's report of the weather at Ratanni for the month of November : — Rain fell on 18 days ; maximum, l#slinl # 51in on the Ist ; total for the month, s'6liu. . Temperature : Maximum, ,72rteg on the 28th ; minimum, 37deg on the 4th ; average, 55 19-30deg. Wind : Variable. Politic»l — Hurrah ! — not because the candidate I supported with a contribution of one vote has been 'elected, because he is at the bottom of the liet as it is read now, but hurrah ! because another candidate has not topped the poll. The Blairites in this and the surroundiug districts are highly gratified to think that the first favourite j of Seddonism is the victim of his own misplacedconfidence. They are proud to realise the fact that the electors of Clutha have shown their true old colours and proved that they are still Conservative , Liberals in a true sense. They are proud to' think that the autocratic Government have learned a lesson at their hands. As will be seen from the lists, Mr Edie polled largely at come of the bush booths. The people ran amuck for him, an.d for what reasons? If there is any rea-onins about it It is best known to themselves. Considering the few people here and how much they are scattered the excitement was, in comparison, no less than in the towns.
