Although the entries in this competition scarcely came up to those of last year in point of numbers, the quality left nothing to be desired. There were 77 entries, and the Judge" had so much 'good material on his hands towards the last that he experienced the greatest difficulty in making the awards. The announcement of the result will not be made till the appearance of the Tales on December 17 ; but we can confidently promise readers satisfaction with the selection made. Che prize photo. Competition.. The results of this competition, the first so far as the Witness is concerned, have been equally satisfactory there being_ 47 competitors. The judging was placed in the hands of Mr. Morris, Photographer, and the selection made will, we are sure, give satisfaction to our readers. • The greater number of the half-tone blocks used in illustrating the issue have been prepared by Mr W E Frost, of this city. J ' ' ' The literary part of the Witness number will, in addition to the Prize Tales and the Articles enumerated above, include contributions from many Old Contributors, among whom may be mentioned : ' Fedora ' . John Pennell Charles Rule (whose "Tales for the Children are David M'Kee Wright P. E.- Nolan annually received with special favour) Wych Elm. And many others.
