MR DUTHIE NOMINATED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, November 27.
A rumour was ourrent hero to-day to the effoet that the Premier would at the last moment be nominated for the City of Weiliugton, but it turned out not to be true. The rumour, however, had Uij effect of bo&t?niflg the Opposition, and in view of Lhe possibility of the iVwnier's nomination being handed in at the last moment it was decided to nomiaate Mr Duthie, aad tbk was accordingly done. A3 tbe Premier is not contesting the seat, it is doubtful it Me Duihio will go on with the election, but a strong effort, will cow beta ado to keep him ia the field. Mr Duthie left, for Nelson to-night, and he will- probably deliver an address there in tho interests of the Opposition candidate. Those competent to judge say that Mr Graham's election is not at all assured, and that the- Opposition may win this seat. Indeed, the chances of the Opposition generally are looking brighter every day, while aoms Government men to whom I hava spoken a;e not so sanguine as formerly.
