THE WEEKS MIKING NEWS.

A Greymouth telegram says :— " The rich goldbearing beach at Barry town is about to be worked by Messrs Zander, Duncan, and Shury, of Ashburton, who have taken up 200 acres, and intend putting the necessary plant on to work it. The eand has been prospected from ope end to the other by practical miners and a mining eng ; neer, who, from 15 teats, show the ground to be marvellously rich. It is intended to work with a 'blow up,' and the proprietors have secured abundant water rights. The ground is situate at the famous Barrytown Range." The Southland Times learns that the Golden Site Gold Mining Company have near'y completed arrangements for reconstructing. The new company will consist of the Golden Site, Hesperides. Break of Day, Heather Bell, and Christmas Eve claims amalgamated into one large concern, which will be d«signated the Golden Site Extended Gold Mining Company (Limited), with a total area of about 150 acres. We (Alexandra Herald) hear that the Ophir and Ind Company gqt lOoz of gold for lasit week's work. This is considered an excellent return, as the ground has already been worked four times. The manager is now working the dredge out of this old ground, and when this is done splendid returns should be obtained.— Arrangements are now being made to put a dredee on the special claim recently acquired by Mr Charles Colclough on the Manuherikia River. It is well known by old and practical miners that this 'ground will pay handsomely for dredging.— The companies who acquired 300 acres of the Waikerikeri Valloy hove been prospecting in earnest lately. Shafts have been sunk in different parts of the valley, and in each shaft highly satisfactory prospects have been got. In order to test the deepest ground the companies intend to erect pumping machinery. This is found to be absolutely necessary, as there is a large flow of water undergound right through tho valley. It is latisfactory to note that even the prospects got so far warrant the companies placing two or three powerful dredges on the valley.
