" THE GONDOLIERS."
The Pollard Opera Compauy have established themselves as firm favourites with the Dunedin theatregoers. On Thursday nigh, when Gilbert and Sullivan's sparkling work "The Gondoliers" was staged, there was a packed house, every scat in the building being utilised, v-hilst chairs had to be brought into requisition to accommodate numbers wiio were otherwise unable to find sitting room. As waa anticipated, the opera was produced with the greatest amount of succe3S, the dancing and the many pretty choruses for which the work is noted being gone through in a manner that evoked vehement applause Miss Maud Beatty and Mise Marion Mitchell took the parts of the two gondoliers, while the parts of the conlad'mi were allotted to Miss May Beatty and Miss Sis-jy Stepheus. All of these gave iv successful impersonation of their respective characters, aud their efforts ware frequently rewarded with hesirty outbursts of approval. Mr Aif . Stephens was effective as the Duke, Mr Quealy infused all tbe requisite humour into the character "of the Grand Inquisitor, while Miss Maud Hewson acquitted herself with credit as OasiltU.
