Throughout tho past week mure uu*i,)fiSßu u*i,)fiSß has obtained, and a brighter, mosre buoyant feeling bas pervaded tha inurkefc. Some negotiations have for weeks been pending, And an understanding having been arrived at, some moderate quantities of both merinos and crossbi'-c!s have now been cleared. (From Oun Special Cobhespondent.) London, October 9. INCREASED COMPETITION. Coleman street Wool Exchange this week has ! presented some scenes full of life and fervour, j I!s can be truthfully aaid that any day's safe offers a treat to the uuinitiatid in wool buying ; I but wlfen buyers seem to ba in a " tamper," and ! feel determined to have the wool on offer, then ' it is that the auction room increases in its [ attractiveness and beauty. This week, indeed, an increased baoyancy and vigour has been the chtracufcristio element of each day's sitting, and instead of buyers in a third week showing aigns of weariness, as is often the case, operators have shown that still they are not " choked "up with the wool already bought. All this has called forth the of fa repeated expression, " Things are , showing an hardening tendency, and wool is , not got so easily »s a week ago." It is very significant that German representatives have waxed strong this week. They were evidently earlier in the aeries "trying the game on," hoping by their reserve to fetter values by bringing them lower, so affecting prices in Australia, but the Home trade being in good fettle, and the French proving themselves valuable allies, wool continues to move at the very top of this series' current values, and with an occasional farthing on. Again, we have been treated to some fair weights of " sweeping up " parcels, but these, when they showed a staple possessing some combing property about it, commanded strict at tan tion. Good shaffcy Queensland* jgpntinne to be well looked after,- -while New {,' land wools "xea

nbsolute necessity of doing something if it were »t all possible. The course of the London sales has been watched eogerly, & very keen open eye has been kept upon the course of values on "t'other side" (Australia), and holders with full knowledge of how wool is moving, and seeing no near and immediate prospect of being able to obtain any further advance, are now prepared to do business. Operations, therefore, in good average, 60's tops at lasfe week's prices are very respectable, while 40's cro3Bbreda are saleable too. The feeling generally is on the wing that the near future will see more doing ; in fact, in the piece trade department more orders have been recently placed, and if here more is doing ib will soon have its tffecfc on the raw material. It is also significant that trade in American quarters in Bradford is not Bear co bad as was recently the case. Some good heavy weights of dress goods are on order for nexb spring, chiefly in Bradford's latest novelties, and instructions have already been biven to be well prepared for the epeedy execution of ' orders for worsted coatings should •Kinley be elected. In English and £outh American descriptions there is a little changing (lands of good medium qualiby, wether wool being preferred before hoggs, especially bright Lincoln sorts'. There is a quite unexpected rise to be recorded in mohair. Dealers are asking 2d in self-defence, prices having advanced at the source of supply. Prospects here are now considerably brighter. Yarnspinnerß are finding more call for yarns, indicating well the position of manufacturers. Other grades of yarns are a shade better on home account. In pieces trade is not so dull. More is doing for home, and export wants have grown.
