A very fine variety of Lily, producing olusfcers of large, perfect., waxy-white blossoms, with a yellow centre, exquisitely perfumed. When cultivated in water (as by the Chinese) the bulbs should be placed in a bowl filled with about an inch of fine clean gravel, upon which the bulbs ate placed, say three to six bulbs in a bowl, according to size. Water liberally, but never let tho water stand high up on the bowl, but only^give enough to keep the roots thoroughly wet. They may then be placed in a dark enpboard or similar place with an even temperature to encourage the growth of the roots, and introduce to the light as the plants develop. Each, posted, Is. Wohlbbs, Missionary afc Ruapnke, written by himself — the original Work having been published in Bremen in 1883. Coming to New Zealand in 1843 he established himself as a Missionary amongst tbe_ Maoris at Ruapuke. He converted communities; to use his own words, of loathsome savages, sunk in poverty and degradation, into communities ©f prosperous, civilised human beings, receiving for many years no remuneration whilst BO doing, but providing his own food out of the coil, and teaching the Maoris to do the same after % civilised manner, thus saving people's souls and their bodies as well. He preserved and fully records the old Maori mythology (a sublime one), the custodians of which all died before his own demise.
