FRUIT AND PRODUCE REPORT.
Messrs Thomas Paterson and Co., fruit and produce agents, Manse street, report for the week ending December 2 :— Fruit.— Locally grown fruit is now starting to rome in freely. Strawberries are now quoted at 6d up to lOd per lb according to quality. We expect to see a further dror this week. Apples : Wow almost unobtainable. Prices range from 14s to lfts. Oranges : Sydney (scaice), 15s. Lemons : Sydney and Auckland, 15s to 22s ; choice Italian, 32a 6J. Pines, 4s to 6s per doz»n. Cherries (imported), Is per lb ; local, BJd to 9Jd- Bananas, 2*d (short supply). Rhubarb, 14s to l&s (strong inquiry). Gooseberries, ljd. Green peas, ljd to 2d. New potatoes (short supply): Peninsula, 2id per lb ; Auckland, If i to 2d. Produce.— Eggs : Fairly plentiful. Butter : Fresh (heavy supplies), 4Jd to 8d ; salt, 6Jd- Bacon : Roll, sfd. Hams, 6*d to 7d (wanttd) Pigs, 3H for prime baconers. Beeswax (wanted). Is Id to Is 3d per lb. Cheese, 4d to 4Jd. Potatoes : Derwenta (now in short suply, but have better inquiry), £5 to £5 10a. Onions: 16s to 18h. Poultry in good demand, received auy day for sale.
