November 2(i. The conceit iv connecfiou with the loed school was held in the. drill hall on the 29th, and the affair proved one of the most successful over held iv the district. Mr F. Black (chairman) spoke a few appropriate words regarding the highly satisfactory state of the school. Everybody seemed veiy much pleased with the programmes, which consisted of songs, duets, recitations, dialogues, piano and violin solos, <6c. A large share of the piogiurmno. fell to the children, whose efforts were fi lly appreciated. This annual concert is one of the gala days of the people of San'dytuount, and on this occasion the* audience and takings were the largest of any such gathering hitherto held. The programme com* prised, piaco solos'by Mrs A. Airken and Miss Duckworth ; songs by L. M'T-iinsh, Annie. Aifckea, K. Hutcheona, M. Dims, Miss A. Hutoheons, Sissie Aitken, B Weir, Mits Duckworth, J. Stewiut, A. Neil, Misß Ock ; violin solos hy Mr Duckworth and Miss M. Hutcheons ; violin duet by Miss Hutcheon and Mr Cossgrove, jup. ; comic song duet by Mr Nyphon and Miss Dick ; comic aongs by Mr Henderson (Andemon's Bay) and Mr D. Nyphon ; recitation by Annie Aitken and G. Bukille ; violin solos by Master J. Weir and Mis'. K. Weir ; a n.a'ling by A.. Robertsou ; and other sonss by g oups of children. Re.freehmeut!<, libera-ly supplied by the ladies, were serve.l after the concert, and a dance followed. Messrs Clark Brothers provided the music free, for which the committee teuder thanks; and thanks are also due to Mrs Black, who kindly lent her piano.

The women who are agitating for the rele*sa of Mro Locber, coovioted of shooting Me Nor* bury in an auction rocm at Wellington, presetted a petition to the Premier containing 4-500 signatures in favour ot her release.
