The racing was of an interesting character, and the only thing to mar the day's pleasure was the unfortunate accident in the principal handicap, and the injury that Gallagher sustained. Speculation was brisk, and the sum of £7397 was put through the machines, as against £4703 on the first day last year. As tha dozen swept past the stand Armilla was showing out from Errand Boy and Strathbraan, the others pretty well in a bunch, with St. Laura last. Much .the same order was maintained •long under the hill, but racing along the back stretch Strathbraan fell away, and Errand Boy again went up second, though he was four or five lengths behind the leader, who was Apparently going well within herself. Nearing the road Acone began to go up, and several : others, including Mahaki and Rangipnhi, were | improving their positions. At the turn into the straight Armilla was in front of Errand Boy •three lengths. Here Acone, who was coming fast, came down and brought j flaneur and Douglas over. Rangipuhi stumbled and unseated his rider. The accident oould not have affected the result, as the filly was going very strongly, and won easily by tiro lengths from Errand Boy, with The Miser cantering in third several lengths to the bad. Gallagher, the rider of Acone, had hit arm and two or three ribs fractured, besides eustainingasevere shaking. Rayner on Rangipnhi, Fairbrother on Douglas, and W. . Then Dauntless's name was shouted, and it looked as if the favourite would get home, but the winner of the Exhibition Handicap, despite her penalty, put in a decided challenge, and catching the leaders a few yards from home won on the poßt by a nock from Sedgebrook, with Flying Shot an excellent third , Tutanekai, Dauntless, and Torpina next. A letter was received from Bald Hill Flat Club asking the D.J.C. to remove the disqualification from all persons and horsen taking part in an unregistered meeting on the 17th March, > the programme not having been submitted to the metropolitan club by error. — Kesolved to remove the disqualification. The Secretary reported that Toomey, an unlicensed jookey, had ridden twice at the Taieri meeting. — Resolved that Toomey be disqualified until be takes out a license, and that the owners employing him be written to, asking for an explanation.
