A committee of the whole council wm formed to canvas the dwtriot for donations to the Bracken Fund. The Finance Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £115. The tender of A. M. Fahey for the trimming of tin hedge around the lower domain reserve (la 5d per chain.) was accepted. A ■ long letter containing reflections upon the actions < of the mayor, councillors, and town clerk, from the recently dismissed lamplighte-, found a rest- ! ing place in the waste pap«r basket, after which the meeting closed. i Political.— Mr, -J. Allen paid a flying visit to Kaitangata on Friday. He appear* to be in good I fighting condition, late hours having apparently j had no deteriorating effect npon his health.
