REVOLTS AGAINST SPAIN.
Madbid, September 7. ! , Marshal Blanco has proclaimed' martial law in the Philippine Islands, and imprisoned 200 of tbe leaders of the agitation. Portion of the war credit asked for by Senor Canovas is for repressing the agitation in the Philippine Islands. German merchants are said to be implicated in the rising. September 9. The Spanish Government hare purchased from the British Government an ironclad at a cost of a quarter of a million, and a cruiser 7 at a cost of L 315.00 0; also a 20-knot cruiser. The rebellion in the Philippine Islands is spreading. General Weyler, who has command of the Spanish opbrationa in Cuba, appears powerless to suppress the rebels, who are steadily improving their position. The latter have abundance of arms and ammunition, which it is believed they receive from America. September 10, The Philippine Island troops defeated the Insurgents and killed 58 of them. Marshal Blanco, the Spanish Governor-general there, ordered the execution of several wealthy supporters of the agitation, and exiled 3SO others.
