TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL. SPECIAL MEETING.
A special meeting of the T»ieri County Couuoil, held on Friday, was attended by the chairman (Mr J. Graham), Crs Chiaholm, Snow, Harrison, Samson, Qaghton, and Todd. - ' ANNUAL BALANCE. SHEET. , A letter was received from the Audit Office -forwarding the half-yearly and annual balance sheets, duly certified to. - Tfas Chairman said the council's liability at the end of th» financial .year 1894-95 was £4837 8s lOd. At the end of the year 1895-96 the liability was £4109 13s 2d, showing an improvement of £727 15i Bd. Dnricg the year 1894-95 £1122 2* Id was expended on roads and works, and in the following year £1477 1118 1 lOd, or an increased expenditure of £355 14s 9d. The expenditure on bridges during 1894-95 was £70 17s 7d, and in the following year £182 17s 5d was expended on bridges, or an increase of £111 19 j Sd. At the end of the fiuancial 3 ear 1894-95 the council raised the land fuud aocouut £239 13s 3d. Lftfct year they raised that fund £172 3s Bd. They had thus reduced their liability by £67 9s 7d. The amount owing for charitable aid in 1894-95 whs £286 7s 4d, while in 1895-96 only £192 15) lid was owing. The council had therefore improved that accuut by £93 lls sd. Thesa balances showed an improved position of £1356 10s lOd. But against that the council had to charge an increased liability on account of the Henley drainage. The interest account for th»t work in 1894-95 was £170 0s 7d. la 1895-96 it amounted to £480 19b 9d, or an increased sum of £306 16s 2d. This amount must ber taken off ttie apparent surplus, aleo an amount of £467 14s 2d for additional works. When this was done it showed the council's actual financial position, to be better than at last audit by .the amount of £582 03 6d. The balance theets were adopted, and the chairman was authorised to sign the same.
