(2) If you want to make a sheepikin rug, first wash the skin in warm Soapsuds to make the wool white and clean, and with the fingera pick out matted pieces and all bits of dirt or brush. It generally needs to ba washed through at least three waters to got clean, and then must be rins*d thoroughly in clear, hard water to take out the suds. Dissolve Jib of alum aud lib of salt in 10 quarts of boiling water, and mix this in a tubful of water. Let the skins lie in this seven hours, then hang them over a Hoc to drain, wool side up. As soon as the wool is dry, stretch aud tack the skinß (wool side down) on some flat surface, as a large board on the side of a barn or wood-hou*e. Some are' stretched on the garet floor, after first placing a few p»pers over the boards, and tscked in as many places as needed. As soon as the skin is about half dry rub it thoroughly over with a mixture of eaual parts of powdered saltpetre and alum, and.repeat this every day for three days, then take it up, fold the skin siden together, and lay it away. After three da^ s spread it down on a table and scrape off all the lumpy places with' a blunt knife and tub well with sandpaper or pumice stone ; it will then be soft and pliable. (3) If a pink colour is wanted, proceed in the following manner : Say - to three small mats or tbins iiia-olve of crystals of magenta in onn pint of boiling water, stir with a stick until all is dissolved. If one mat only is wanted, add one cupful of 1 he magenta liquor to sufficient water to cover the mat, giving room for handling. Ten minutes in the bath will produce the colour wanted. If a red cobur is desired, add half a cupful of aniline
