? «!, All entries for the above should ;be addressed to " Terror, Witness Office, " and ba accompanied by od in stamps. Particular* required MjjititMQ are breed, sex, markings, age, iieaigreft, thow record, whether for gale or not, v attd price, and whether- for stud or 'not, and •Jee," No' extra charge will bo nude for subsequent alterations as to ownership or particulars as tjo'show winnings. , ' _ ' WEI»USGXOS NOTES. Now Ih&t the first great show of tha season ii over, fanciers have settled down to get their favourites ready for the next encounter, which takes place at Wellington on the 18th and 19oh of next month, and according to present prospects it is going to be a monster affair. I sincerely hope tbe southern fanciers will send up their strongest exhibits. I can assure them that it will ba to their advantage to do so, as people' here are very anxious to «c» their cracks, and also buy some of the blood. This applies especially to collies, greyhounds, cockers, and retrievers, buyerß of which are especially coming to Wellington show to see what they can pick up. The Wellington exhibitors who attended the Dunedin. show had a very good time, and enjoyed their visit immensely. They all ■peak highly of tha stow, and especially of the wire beuchin £, which gives euch a flushed look to the exhibits, and actually, &B one fancier eaid, -maket them look fully 50 per cent, better. I have, however, one little grumble on the part of fanciew who oauld not. attend the show,- and that is the scarcity of catalogues, And also the careless manner in which the awards were -printed in' them. For instance, some dogs that were abient ate not marked suob, therefore leading anyone to suppose they competed' and 'did "toothing; while dogs that received v.h.c. and suoh like distinctions are not credited with the lame. This carelessness, besides being annoying at the time, is also capable of be'ng used byunscrupulousfaucierstetheo'ebrimenbof other breeders, as for instance a man whose dog gets h.c. chow« the eatal gne to a friend, or perhaps » buyer, and points out that hi?, though ib did not win, still beat the noted dog— well, nay, Rimu Prima Donna, who though absent was cbh marked as such;

A meeting of the New Zealand Kennel Club was held here on Tuesday, 4th inst., with Mr Moorbotue in the chair, %v.d a lot of work was done in regard to back registration, &c. Amongst; other bu;ine* s a letter was read from tie Ddnedin Fanciers' Club re the black field ipaniel L*dy Belle, who, though reported as having died on ihe voyage from Sydney show, still was able to win a couple of prizes at Dnnedin. After discussion, it was decided to aik Mr Rogen to kindly explain the nutter. The secretary was also asked to write the Greymouth Ponllr? and Dog Sotietj re their show, which- is advertised as under tbe rules and regulations of the Kennel Club, whereas they are not affiliated. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Kennel Club is fixed to take place in Wellington on the 19th September (the second day of our •how), and all notices of motion to alter any of the existing rules must be in the hands of the secretary on or before the ttth insb. A meeting of tha WeUington Kennel Club *m held last nijiht, and it was decided to have an art uuion in connection with the snow. The prizes will be pictures and a couple of the best bicycles. An addition to the schedule was made in the shape of Irish terrier bitckes, open class, instead of them having to compete against the dogs. I am sorry to hear that we are not to see the new benching wire at Wellington. It appears the finances of the club will not allow of its being hired for the occasion, but next year the Committee hope to. have funds to bttf similar Baacbing for themselves.

Speaking of the above brings the thought to my mind what a graceful act ib would be on the part of the Dunedin Fanciers' Club to oifer the use of their benching to the Wellington Kennel Club free. It woald do the banchiug no harm, and would certainly benefit tha fancy generally, and tbe Dunedin Fanoiera' Club particularly in the long run. I hear on good authority that the visiting fanciers ara to ba entertained at luncheon at the Trocadero on the second day of the Wellington show. Tb.it is a capital idea, for these fooial reunions do more in my opinion to break down the barriers of provincial jealousy than anything else, and men who hava looked upon each other as bitter opponents find that they mistaken, and that they ara meeting good healthy rivalry only, and their interchange of views is to tbe benefit of both and tha fancy generally. Through the courtesy of the secretary of the Wellington Kennel Club, I have seen the catalogue of the Southland Dog and Poultry Society, and ona feature of ib strikes me as being a first-rate idea -r* that is, giving a description of the various breeds of dogs over their particular BeotioDS. Thii is indeed carrying out oce of the objects of the fanoy— viz., educating the general p'ublio to the different points of the dog, ao that they may appreciate the advantages of purebred animals, and also adding interest in the show for those attending. I must, however, suggest the advisablenesß of giving absolutely oorreot descriptions, otherwise harm, is dona instead of good ;. -and lam afraid tho Southland looiety were in a hurry or else the catalogue has been misprinted, -«s I notice some of the descriptions ate a little off.
