WRITTEN APPLICATIONS, stating qualifications and accompanied by teoliiuobiftls, will ba received at tits Office, up to MONDAY, the 17th of Aujubt next, for the position of • INSPECTING ENGINEER TO THH MINES DEPARTMENT, at a salary of £450 a year and an allowance of 12s 6d a day while absent from Wellington on the public service, to cover all expenses excepting EUamboat, railway, and coach fares and horee hire, the cost of whioh will ba paid by the Department. . The person to be appointed must b3 qualified to hold a First-class Certificate as a Mine Manager uuder "The Mining Act 1891 "and the amendments thereto, and also under " The Coal Mines Act 1891." He will also be required to vitit the mining ce&treß throughout the colony, as well as the various coal mines, and to prepare an arnual report tb^reou foe the General Assembly. The inspectiog engineer must aho repoifc on applications for at-sifctmce ' towards the construction of roads, tracks, and i bridges in minicg districts, for subsidies towards proßpecting, the construction of milling workssuch as water races, dams, reservoirs, &c ; and, under the direofcion of the Minister for Mines, take general contrbl of all works towards the cost of which money is con'ribufced by the Mints Department from votes provided by the Legislature. : ' A.
