THE SANGSTER INQUIRY.
MELBOUBNB, July 9.
The report of the board which was set up at the instanoa of Mr Sangater, M.L.0., to inquire into the allegations that Vessels were allowed to leave the harbour in an unsatisfactoiy condition, find that the serious allegation is disproved. Members state they are not satisfied that the Wendouree was unsafe, although her condition showed signs of neglect. The state* ment that the surveyor was dismissed fox declining to make a false report, they say, is untrue. Generally, the board find that Mr Sangßter was right in his contention that some intercolonial steamers fell short of the standard of comfort and accommodation for seamen. The report states that the charges made throughout were permeated rather bj a feeling of antagonism in the relations be* tween the seamen and their employers than by any belief in misconduct or neglect on the part of the officers.
