UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the University Council, held on Monday afternoon, was attended by Mr E. B. Cargill (Vice-chancellor, in the chair), Mr Q. Q. Russell, Dr Hooken, Dr Burns, Dr Shaud, Professor Sale, and the Rev. A. Cameron.

In the matter of advertising the cyanide plant at the School of Mines, as recommended by the Mines School Committee, the Finance Committee recommended that suitable advertisements- bo inserted, provided that sufficient revenue be available from charges to bo made. — The report was adnp'ed. ' The Mines School Committee reported that Ihe machinery for the cyanide and crushing plant was now on the ground and in process of erection. Tho w ork was being done under the supervision of Mr Cutten. It would be necessary to ktrange for a reasonable schedule of

charges for treating parcels of ore, and the committee recommended that the rates charged at the Thames School of Mines be adopted. — The report was adopted, the council approving of the matter being advertised. It was reported that a microscope was missing from tho university.— The registrar was instruoted to consult tbe police. A deputation from the University Tennis Club waited on the council. Mr C. 11. Mouat acted as spokesman and explained that the Tennis Club proposed to aßk the council for permission to have a tennis court erected on the lower ground on the lef >hand side of the footway to the university.— The Vjck- chancellor staked that the council would give the matter fulloon pideration, and would ask the House Committee to meet the club on the ground and go fully into the matter.
