TAPANUI.
July 7.— Since my last letter we have had a most unusually heavy rainfall. As a contequenco thePomahakft River was overflowing its bankß, but nn material damage has been done. The dredges have for some time been laid up for the want of water, but they will now be able to resume work as soon as the river falls a little. The weather still seem? very unsettled and the Blue Mountains are clad with snow.
Funeral.— The remains of the late Mr Andrew Potts were laid quietly to rest in the Tapanui Cemetory on Wo lnegday afternoon. The funeral procession was one of the largest seen in this dfe,tnot, showing the respect held for the deceased. The Rev. A. Begg officiated at the grave. On the coffin Was laid a number of floral wreathe, and the words Chriit 1s my Redeemer: Andrew Potts; aged 59 years." The Rev. A. Bugg on Sunday morniug spoke of the Chu&t'an faith and patience of the deceased during his illne«s. POLiTiCAL.~Report has it that thera will be a strong field of competitors for parliamentary honours in this electorate. The names of no fewer than 10 candidates are already mentioned, including all sorts and conditions of men, from » newspaper runner to a parson.
