LAND AND WATER.

OTAGO GOLF CLUB.

A very interesting and enjoyable afternoon was spent at the Otago Golf Club's Links last Saturday; when a match between sides chosen by the captain and' the secretary was played. Notwithstanding the wet weather which prevailed during the past week the green was in good order, the only and great disadvantage being a north-easterly gale that tended to try the patience of the members generally, and no doubt caused several disastrous results. The attendance numbered 31, "and speaks well for the interest taken in the game. On the cards being handed in it was found that the captain's side were victorious by 10 holes. The following are the scores and players :— j| Captain. Secretary. 2 10 Mr M.Watson "V fMr E. P. Kenyon 0 8 Mr G. H. Higgins h Mr J. H. Hosklng 0 7MrH. D. Stronach |-g|Mr C. Maitland 0 5 Dr H. L. 34 .24 It has been finally decided that the New Zealand Amateur Golf Championship meeting shall be held on- the Otago Golf Club's links during the last week in September next. The royal and ancient game has evidently taken a very strong hold in the colony/ and a large number of entries may be expected from the various clubs.

. Mr Ayson, curator of the Masterton fish hatcheries, on Thursday took 620,000 trout ova, 200,000 more than had been previously taken in any one day.
