MR REEVES IN LONDON.

London, June 27., At a banquet at the Eighty Club the Right Hon. Mr Aeqaith, in proposing the health of the Hon. W. P. Reeves, Agent-general for New, Zsaland, said he was the £rst colonial statesman who, v despite strong opposition, had .secured social and industrial reforms with -a rapidity not equalled hy -any, other community. He added that no oolony had been less inclined to accept Mr Chamberlain's scheme than New Zealand. "Mr Reeves, in replying, reviewed politics in New Zealand for the past five yean' j and said he foresaw that it wonld be difficult to solidify the empire. The only possible way to obtain that great result was to justify any alteration in the presont relations.
