"An' Slch Like."
A gentleman in the Midlands recently re* lated the following experience to bhe writer :— S:m9 little .time ago be bad a horse for sale. Tbe animal, however, .was much too well known in the district, and no bid vras forthcoming. In the end 'his owner pent off the vicious Brutus to a large horse fair * ome distance away, giving his groom strict injunctions to give no guarantee with- the horse. ' A day or two later the faithful William returned with the welcome intelligence 'that Brutui bad been disposed of for a good round 'sum — far more, in fact, than the owner bad dared to anticipate. " You did nob forget what I told you, William?" asked bhe gentleman. "You gave no guarantee— verbal or otherwise ? " " No," answered William promptly, "I was kcerful, and did jusb as you told mo. The buyer azed if he wor freetened o' train', and I snid »,No,' cos he ain'b." " Well, no," said the gentleman, hesitating, -" he certainly isn't'frightenfd of tradns." "As the chap wor Farisfi-sd, wi' that-," continued William,- "I thought it-best nob to say auybhiug abcub bicycles and bobbies and soldiers and umbrellas ,^ud flying bits o' paper— an' sicb-like." • - •
