KNIGHIS OF LABOUR.
At the ordinary meeting of the Dunedin Assembly, Knight* of Labour, No. 563, held on Thursday last, the following platform was, in response to a circular from the Progressive* Liberal' Association, Christohurch, asking for suggestions, recommended for adoption' at the coming election, viz. :•— LEGISLATIVE UEFOKM. 1." The referendum, with the initiative. 2. The elective Executive as the complement of the referendum. SOCIAL BBFOHM. 3. The establishment of a State bank, with the monopoly of note issue. 4. The nationalisation of land and minerals. 6. That it be the duty of the State to provide for all unemployed, and to support all who are unable to support themselves. 6. The enaotment by statute of eight hours as a legal working, day. MCAL GOViSBNMENT BBFOKM. 7. The extension of the powers of local governing bodies, such bodies to be elected on the basis of the parliamentary electoral roll. The dead body of a man has been found hangiog to a tree near Jerilderie. Over £15 wts in his pockets.
