Frozen Meat and Railway Management. TO THE EDITOR.
Sm, — The correspondence in your issue ol to-day between the Southland Frozen Meat Company and the Minister for Railways makes interesting and instructive reading, bufc I am afraid the true inwardness of ifc will not be apparent to the general public. The extortionate rateß from Mataura to the Bluff on frozen meat and the lowering of rates for live stock both act in the same direction. I need only point out that the famous Ooeau Beach Freezing Works at tbe Bluff receives all its supplies of cheep by rail!, while the Southland .Frozen Meat Company, ' having it) works inland, receives the bulk of its live stock by road. Thus the reduction of tariff for live stock tells almost wholly in favour of tbe Ocean Beach. Works, while fche very high rate of frozen meat tells solely againsb toe Southland Frozen Meat Company. To point the moral still more clearly the Railway department allow the Ocean Beach Works a very low special rate on its bjr« produota — skins, tallow, &c. — I am, &c, Dunedin, June 4-. Nemo. Nimmo & Blaib's " Standard " pEEDs'are unequalled for quality of strain. Their prodatt take prizes everywhere.
