THE REDUCED TELEGRAPH CHARGES.
In connection' with the reduced c'aaygts for telegrams within the colony, the returns from 46 of the principal telegraph offices for the period from Ist to 6th June inclusive as compared with, the period of the Ist to 7th May (exclusive of Sunday) show an increase of 17 53 per cut, in th.9 number of ordinary telf grams* , and 49*52 per cent, urgent ordinary telegrams forwarded. The total revtnue derived from both codes shows an increase Gf 107 per cents. The to'*ls i'or each period' are a-i follow:— Frotmlst to 7fca May : Ordinary telegrams 21,563, of the value of £1097' ]i7fl 2d ; urgent ordinary telegrams 931 ? of. the value of £116 12* 3d. Period from Ist to 6th June : Ocdiuary telegrams 25,31-4, of the value of £1092 9i 4d; urgent ordinary telegrams 1392, of the value , £134 11-a 6d. Auckland showe an increase of 31*33 per cent, in the number of ordinary telegrams forwarded, and 160 per cent, in urgent ordinary telegrams ; Curietalmrch increased 22*19 per cent, for ordinary telegrams and 21*52 for urgents ; Dunedin increased 382 per cent, for ordinary and 30 36 for urgents ; Wellington. i»> j creased 14*50 per rent, for ordinary, bub urgent* decreased I*Bs. The abnormal, increase in Auckland is attribu'ed to the large sharebroking business which in transacted by telegraph. j
