AN ABORTIVE PROSECUTION.

JfEiißOuaNE, May 27. At the Criminal Oonrfc, Bappiporb and Baxter, two of the justices recently struck off the commission as the result; of the Lormer inquiry, were Charged with epnspir* ing to defeat the ends of justice In connection with a case in which Mrs Boulter, a hotolkeeper, was charged with Sunday trading. After formal evidence had been tendered, Boulter and his wife were called. The Chief Justice said they could give evidence if they liked, but he warned them that they might be included in the charge of conspiracy, and their evidence mitjht be used against them. Both thereupon refused to give evidence, and the Crown having no further witnesses the judge directed the jury to acquit the accused as there was no evidence on which to convict. The jury asoordingly returned a verdict of acquittal, and the defendants were discharged.
