DRAUGHTS ITEMS.

A draughts match between Messrs S. T. Orook and J. A. Boruham started on May 28. The condltlona ate that Mr Crook plays the black ride in the " Old Fourteenth "—the 5 9 variation—ever; game; any game drawn must not ba" repeated throughout the match of 12 games. Mr Crook it said to have some unpublished play on this line. The tir^t game played resulted in a draw, and tha second was won by Boreham (White), A meeting of draughts stayers and subscribers to the Boroham Wangauul Draughts Tournament fund was held at Oamaru after Mr Borehun's return. Mr Sievwrighfc was voted, to the chair, He rtated that the arrangement entered into with Mr Boreham was that he should hand the prizes over to those who had been good enough to send him, and that Mr Boreham had done so. The purpose of the meeting was to determine what should be done with the trophies and the £10 won by Mr Boreham at Wanganui. After consideration it was moved by Mr Moxham, seconded by Mr W. Paterson (Ngapara), that the whole of the trophies, including the £10 cheque, be presented to Mr J. A. Boreham. Mr Magnire moved an amendment that the cheque be handed to Mr Boreham, and the trophies ba played for by the members of the Draughts Association. This was seconded by Mr Lindsay (Mahcino). The motion was carried, and the chairman then presented the trophies and cheque to Mr Boreham in a congratulatory speech. Mr Boreham, in thanking the draughts players and subscribers for their Kind* ness, said he would retain the cheque, and at some future time offer the trophies to be jlayed for. Balfour Draughts Club.—This club held its annual meeting on Thursday, 28th ult; There was a good attendance of members and those interested in the game of draughts. The following gentlemen w«re elected office-bearers :— President, Mr John Dickie; vice-president, Mr M. M'Phee: secretary and treasurer, Mr D. M'Phee. In addition to the game of draughts it was resolved to add chess, cards, and dominoes for the amusement or those subscribers to the club's funds who do not indulge in draughts- playing. The club meets weekly on THir'day evening for practice in the hall, and with uffivieut support a very *ucce«sful feason is anticipated.
