FRUIT AND PRODUCE REPORT.
Messrs Thomas Paterson and Co., fruit and produce agents, Manse street, report for tho week ending May 27 :— Fruit.—Market is very barely supplied with local apples and pears, and high prices are obtained for choice fruit. A few imported apples are being lauded to order only sw the Id duty is now prohibitive. Apples : Local cooking, 6i to 7a 6d; crabs, 8s 6d. Pears : Cooking, 2J ; dessert, 2£d to 3}d. OraDg«s : D.E. Tahiti (for which we aio sole agents), 6s to 6s 6d; Island, 5a to fa. Bananas, lfd to 2Jd. Cocoanuts, 10s to 12s per sack. Peanut*, 3d to 3*d. Walnuts, 5Jd to oU Grapes, Ib. Tomatoes: Hothouse, Sd. Country orders accompanied by cash remittances will hava prompt attention. Produce —Eggs scarce. Freßh butter (wanted! 9d to lOd; prime salt, 8d to 9d (good demand;. Cheese: Factory, 4d to 4Jd; Akaroa, 3J4 to 4a. Bacon : Roll (prime quality, always in stock), 6Jd. Hams, 6JA to 7d, Pigs, 3d. Honey, 3Jd to 4d. Beeswax, Is Id. Potatoes, £2 15s to £3 (firm). Onions, £8 to £9. Poultry in good demand.— We receive consignments of grain and farm produce of all descriptions.
