A large proportion of the entry consisted of good to prime mutton suitable for export, and for this class the demand was comparatively good, but for all other sorts the demand was weak, and had it not been for the operations of several graziers a large number would doubtless have been turned out. Country Sales.— The Mutual Agency Costpany op New Zealand (Limited) report having held th«ir usual fortnightly sale at Balcluthft, when they penned 1000 sheep and lambs, and oleared every lot at a considerable advance on late rates. Crossbred wethers for toppiug of on turnips up to 13s 2d, and crossbred ewes in lamb up to 9s 4d, knibs, (a small line, fat) at 10s 4d, store lambs in fresh condltion from 7a 9d to 8s 2d. Sheepskins. — The weskly sales were held at tha Chamber ot Commerce Hall on Tuesday. All the buyers were in attendance, and the catalogues were cleared at highly satisfactory prices Green crossbreds sold at 2s 7d to 3s 3d ; merinos, 2s to 2s 5d : dry crossbreds, 2s Id to 5s 7i ; merinos, Is Sd to 3s lOd ; pelts, 4d to Is 2J. Hides.— The market ia without change, and receut quotations are readily obtainable. Tallow. - Since last raporting, there has been no change of any impertauce. There are several buyers in the market, and both rough fat and tallow are readily disposed of at for primo rendered, 17s to 18s per cwt ; medium, 14s to 163 j inferior, 125. t0 13s 6d ; rough fat, 9s to 12s. Grain. — Wheat : There is little business to report in connection with this cereal. The advance lately reported has been fairly well maintained. Valvet continues to command most atteutiou, and, if prime, can be placed at quotations. Quotations are : Prime milling velvet, 3s 8d to 3s 9Jd ; medium do, 3s 5d to 3s 7d ; prime Tuscan, Ac, 3s 6d to 3s 8d ; medium do, 3s 3d to 3s sd ; fowl feed, 23 lOd to 33 2d per bushel (sacks extra). Oats : The demand for good short feed was extremely keen during last week, but this week, probably owing to the large quantity op offer, values have declined. Liue-i specially suitable for seed have not suffered to the same extent, but for feed lines values may be reported about id to Id per biuhol below tho«e of last week. Prime long Taitars are worth 2s to 2a 4d ; Suthnrlandi, Is lid to 2s 2d ; bent feed (sparrowbills), Is 9JJ to Is lOd ; medium to good feed, Is 84 to la 9Jd per bushel (sacks extra). Barley : No business to report, and values unchanged. ' Potatoes.— Prime Darwents are in good demand, but although arrivals have not been heavy of late values show little sign of the expected improvement. Crops both north and s uth are, however, bdieved to be light, and this class of produce is therefore looked upon as fairly safe property. Quotations : Best northern Der wents, £2 15s to £3 ; beat southern Derwentc, £2 12s 6d to £2 17s 6d ; medium, £2 5s to £2 10g (socles in). Chaff.— Up to the end of last week prices wera well maintained, but this week, owing to the large supply sent forward, reduced values had to be accepted in order to effect sales, and prices have declined about 2s 6d to 5s per tou. We quota : Best oaten sheaf, £2 12s 6d to £2 15 a; extra , heavy do, £2 17s 6d ; medium to good, £2 7s 6d to ' £2 10s (bags extra).
