May 21. -Tho echool committee election bei* did not eventuate. No one seems to be interested in matters scholastic in Otama. The New Woman.— The debating society heia its first meeting in the schbolhouee, whea tharo was a very fair attendance. Tho president, Ms R&nißay, read a paper on "The New Woman,'* which was very well received, but was not mucb debated upon, m rnbers aiming to be, very shy i but I daresay they will get better a« they progress during tho session. The ttyllabuG for thu ensuing; meetings waa fixed upon, and "Monday aighta (fortnightly) for attendirg. Mr Logan jropuaed a vote of thanks to Mr Ramsay for his address, which was unanimously carried. Ecclesiastical —We are having a week o* evangelistic meetings here just now, presided over by Mr James M Caw. Thoy are hiiog fairly well attended. Weather.— The weather in now bright andt' fro ty, and the roude are in good condition. Sheep. —I Bee the sheep are now b< iv j put on the turnips, but the eating off of tha turnips will be quickly accomplished this winter, as they aso a very medium crop here.
