THE LATE SIR HENRY PARKES.
Sydney, May 21. In the Legislative Assembly Mr G. H. Reid, Premier, moved to place on record a deep sense of the great loss the colony had sustained by the death of Sir Henry Parkes. He said tbat the dead statesman was for many years one of the most distinguished members of the Assembly, who had rendered in the highest offices great and priceless services to the people. Members from all parts of the House eulogised Sir H. P*ikes's services. In reply to statements tbat Lady Parkes and family were in great straits, even without the necessaries of life, Mr R id said that ever since the beginning of the deceased statesman's illness tbe Government had supplied every need of tbe family, and were /still doing so. Besides making permanent provision for the family, the Govern ment intended to ask Parliament to vote LIOOO to place Lady Parkes in a comfortable home.
