OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND AUXILIARY. The annual meetings o? tho Otago and Southland Auxiliary to the New Zealand Baptist Union were held on Monday t.t the Kaikorai Baptist Church. At 10.30 a.m. the proceedings commenced with prayer for God's blessing upon all the deliberations of the day. This meetiag was presided over by the Rev. E. Richards. At 11.30 a m the President of the auxiliary (Mr W. Ings) took the oh»ir, and, after devotional exercises, gave the chairman's ad(3re=e, which was full of words of practical interest and advico to tho workers and representatives of the different churches. At the roll call of delegates 33 answered to their names as the representative*: of 12 churches and branches. The Secretary's report showed progress on the part of several of the churches affiliated. The two churohes previously existing at Forbury road and John street, Caversham, had united during the past year, and are now working harmoniously under the pastoral oversight of the Rsv. W. L. Suiter. New places for worship had been erected at Invercargill and at Opoho, and add'tiona to church property has been made at Me.igiel. Thfl foreign missionary spirit had been well to the for<j. During the year one misrfonary lady (Mies Bicon) had been welcomed home from the &*\d, and two workers (the Rev. G. and Mrs Hughes) had luft for tho New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society's field of operation in Bengal. The sum of £498 14s had been given to this important part of the church's work. After the right hand of fellowship h\d been given to the Key. W. L. Baiter, the assembly adjourned to the main building for lnnch, which was bountifully provided by, the members of tho Kaikom branoh. At the afternoon session a large gathering assembled to hear a thoughtful paper by Mr G. Churchill on " The relationship of Home with Foreign Missionary Work," which subject excited a helpful discussion. The following officers were elected for tv« ensuing year :— President, Rev. F. W. Bore* ham ; secretary and treasurer, Rev. J. Hinton ; Committee— Revs. A. North, A.. Dewdney, B. Rioharda, W. L. Salter, and Messrs H. H. Driver, W. Ings, and A. C. Stewart. The public tea meeting took place at 6 p.m., and the public meeting at 7 p.m. At the latter meeting Mr J. Stewart presided. la a few words the chairman welcomed the delegates on behalf of the Kaikorai church, and gave some details regarding the .work of their branch. The Rev. W. L. Salter spoke on " The Aggressive Work of the Church," and Mr J. Ings followed with a forceful address on " The Claims of Heathendom." The Rev. F. W. Boreham spoke on " Public Worship," and the Rev. A. North on " The Nurture cf Young Disciples." Tho benediction brought the proceedings to ft close.
Sir Patrick Buckley's funeral proeessfon was a very large one, including 60 carriages and some hundreds of mourners on foob. All the Ministers, the four judges, numbers of member* of Parliament, and most of the bar were present.
