It has been seasonable, which, does not always mean ploasaut at this time of year. One often bears complaints of trade being dull in town and money scarce, but on the other hand we hear o£ frequent sales of property, especially of tnedhvtn-siz -d and small farms,, not to- mention agricultural produce, all at very satisfactory prices* Farmer* got for oats last Saturday aa high as Is 8U at country stations 40 miles inland from the- Bluff, and a few lines i-f seed oats have changed hands at 2s during; the week This and goo i price* ruling for other ocreals is a great incentive bo cr#p heavily in the ' coming. season, hence the g»od demand far lav d of suitable description, draught horses agricultural implements, *c. She then called to one of her-children to throw a bucket of water overher. The little one promptly, obeyed, but this proved ineffectual, and. 1 the children ra<> nut of the house. Their attracted Mr Williams, who was woikn^ * few . chait'B away, and he ran home as fast as possible. A doctor wastelephoned' for, but on his arrival he found the caeehopeles", and the sufferer died' next morning. Deep sympathy is felt far Mr Williams,. who is 1-sft with ten children, all of tender year*..' The other case was that of a girl of four years of age, thedanghter of Mr and Mrs Keardon, Woodland-, who died the same day from injuries ahe received through her dress- catching fire a few days before. The building opposite the Invercargill railway station that has long been known as the R<dl1 way Hotekis about to be pulled down to make isom for a brick hotel, more in keeping with tae progress of the town. Mrs S. F Watson arrived re«'ently from the north to make arrangements for' the necessary work, and has decided to "build premises containing over 30' apartments, and! fitted, with all the conveniences' necessary for toe accommodation and comfort of a first-class hotel, , including a small restaurant, where the travelling public may wait for the train and obtain tea, *c. The Southland Education 'B ard are now advertising for applications to fill this and a few other vacancies in. their district, largel}' caused by no less than four of their female teachers getting married this month.
