THE VANCOUVER SERVICE.

Brisbane, Maj 12. Oaptain Bird, of the Miowera, is negotiating with the Government, on behalf of Hud- ■ dart, Parker, and Co., to extend the Vancouver service to Queensland if sufficient inducement off-red. Brisbane will be mada • the first port of call and the last of departure. Oaptain Bird presented two proposalsone for a 31 days' service with two steamers, or three-weekly with three. The company ' are anxious to extend the service to Queensland, bat Captain Bird said that if the Government are not willing to meet him he will most likely arrange to make New Zealand the first port of call. He thinks that the Queensland trade is preferable, because it is more in the line of route than New Zealand. It is understood that Oaptain Bird asks not less than LlO.OOO per year as a subsidy for seven years. The Cabinet are believed to be favourable to tha proposal, but it has not been decided wha.6 amount of subsidy to give.
