THE ARDGOWAN BALLOT.
Oamaru, May H. Abjut 1500 persons attended at the Theatre Royal to-day, when the ballot took place for sections in the Ardgowan estate, which was recently acquired by tho Government under the Land for Settlements Act;. Mr J. F. Maitland, Commissioner of Crown Lands, explained that tho prooess would be long and tedious. They were only provided with 230 marbles, and where the number of applicants was above thufc there would have to be a series of drawings. Possession would not be given till the Ist June. The present tracks through paddocks and bridged across creek* would 'have to be used until the permanent roads wer« formed.
