THE INCOME TAX. Christchurch, May 12.

At the Police Court to-day, Mr Beetbam, S.M., being on the bench, eight persons resident in Christchurch were each fined £5 with costs (£2 9s) for failing to supply returns of their incomes for the year 1895, in accordance with "The Land and Income Assessment Act 1891," clause 43. They were further ordered to pay treble the amount originally due on their assessments.
