A NARROW ESCAPE.
Wellington,' May 15.—TheTJpolu had a narrow escape from stranding on the voyage to WVutpart yesteiday afternoon. When iff Sinclair Head the weather became very thick and the land was lobtsight of. The captain give orders for the vessel to go dead slow, and shortly afterwards the haze lifted, and it was seen that the vessel was only' about a ship's length off the rocks in *pter&mri Bay. Orders were mime- j diaj;ely given Full-speed, astern." Those | in' the eugine" room thought the vessel ] bad struck, but those on the deck were of a contrary' opinion The captain eonuded, and found that,the vessel was making no. water. It was decided to return to Wellington. A diver made an examination this morning and found that there was not the slightest trace of any injuries. The captain attributes the fact of his being' five. Dr six miles out of his course to the thick weather and the ebb tide catching the vessel on the port bow and setting her inshore.
