Notes from Miller's Flat.
The Tuapeka Timeß correspondent writes as follows : — The Golden Treasure dredge has been shifted to the lower portion of the company's claim, and in the course of two-or three weeks decent returns can be looked foiward to. It will take a little while to get properly .opened out. Mr A Fair, who wan for some' time manager of the dredge, and more recently engineer, has accepted an appointment as engineer of the Upper Waipori Company's No. 1 dredge. Mr Rouburn, of Dunedin, fills Mr Fair's position on the Golden Treasure. The Golden Run dredge has been working away steadily, bub the return* are far from encouraging. Last week's yield was 12Joz of gold. The company a,e hopeful of doing better as soon as the river" drops to its winter level. I hear that Mr W. Adama, who was one of the promoters of the company, has disposed of his interests in the. dredge and Extended claim to a Dunedin gentleman. The manager of the Tsland Block Extended claim, which is owned by the Golden Kua Company, washed up a' day or two ago for 220z. The company have gone to a good deal of expense lately in procuring new plant. So far they have not met with much encouragement since acquiring the claim. It iH to be hoped that there are brighter days in store for the company, who deserve to be richly recompensed for the pluck and enterprise they hare shown. Messrs Pringle and party's dredge has been idle for a day or two to allow of a few alterations boing made. I hear that the centrifugal pump has been giving a httle trouble— not working ss satisfactorily as might be expected. The party have had no cause to r< gret having placed a more powerful, up-to-date dredge on their claim, which is looked upon as one of the best properties on the river. The Golden Gate dredge has not been doing so well of late. She is now at work in the river a ihort distance below the spot where she was first launched. Meesrs Kuewstubb Bros, are making good headway with the pontoons of the Golden Link Company's dredge. Messrs Morgan and Cable, of Port Chalmers, who had the contract for" ths, Golden Gate dredge, have been entrusted with the ironwork of the Gnldent Link dredge. Mr Stevenson, one of the firm, who holds a considerable interest in the Link, was on the ground a few days ago. I am very glad to hear that-the Island Block Gold-mining Company is now doing very woll. Mr 0. C. Rawlins, the general manager, is in hopes of wiping off the company's indebtedness at the bank, which has proved such a terrible millstone, in a few weeks' time. The Ettrick dredge passed here towards the end of the week on her way back to the Bengerburn. I exptect she'll make a start early this week. I hoar that Messrs Richardson and party, who took a special claim some little time ago on the Bengerburn, are making arrangements to start prospecting operations. Mr Malcolm, our local blacksmith, is getting the plant in readiness. A rumour is in circulation that Mr Hatching's claim at Dumbarton Rock is likely to be taken over by a Home syndicate at an early date. Inspector Gordon, of the Mines department, was over the ground the other day and was said to be greatly pleased with it.
