Adelaide. May 6. The counting of the votes under the Educational Referendum iB practically completed, and the results officially declared are: — First issue : Are you in favour of the continuance of the present system of education in the State schools 1 There voted for the coutinuancs of the national system 50,600 ' Against it:) continuance 17,500 Secoud it>sue : Do you favour the Introduction of Scriptural instruction in the State schools during school hours ? Tieie voted in favour 18,600 Th-re voted against ... 34.3U0 Third issue : Do you favour payment .of the capitation grant .to denominational schools for secular results ? There voted in favour ... 13,000 Th«re voted against ... .J. ... 41,300 The electoral roll comprised 77,464 males and 59,066 female voters. It will be seen that 68,100 people have so, far voted on the main issue.
Mr D. Reid, on retiring from the command of the Bruce Rifles, was presented by his late corps viihh a silver tea and coffee service. Lieutenant; Stewart is the new commander of the company.
